Gene Putnam and Tim Klimpel bring an easy listening mix of country, jazz, gospel and popular standards to the stage. Gene and Cindy Putnam combine their vocal harmonies as Gene plays (Chet Atkins) fingerstyle guitar and Tim compliments the music with his fluid bass guitar style, making this a crowd pleasing combo. The Country Gentlemen will have your toes tapping and your hands clapping to some of your favorite tunes.
Gene is a fourth generation North Dakota son with a life-long passion for fingerstyle guitar. As a teenager, his father (Bill) started him on a Gibson J-45 acoustic guitar and introduced him to Chet Atkins recordings. Guitarists Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, Merle Travis, Doyle Dykes and Tommy Emmanuel have influenced his guitar playing style. Gene enjoys playing in a Praise Team at his church and singing with his wife. Gene has also recorded two instrumental CD’s under the Sunflower Studio label.
Tim Klimpel started playing electric guitar at the age of 16 and went on to play for various bands. In the 80’s, Tim played lead guitar for a regional band called Rangler. Tim was influenced by such artists as Vince Gill and Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits. Later, Tim would be asked to join a contemporary worship team at his church. It was during this time he discovered the bass guitar. With its unique voicing, it has become his instrument of choice.
This trio has made regular appearances at the Norsk Hostfest, the North Dakota State Fair, regional festivals, banquets, weddings, receptions, fund raisers, and reunions as well as various schools, churches and senior care facilities.
