The J-M-B Band is a variety band made up of Jerry Schlag on accordion and Myron Dammen on guitar. They have performed at many local night clubs, the North Dakota State Fair, Norsk Høstfest, Frozen Finger Festival, Minot Arts in the Park, Harvey Arts in the Park, Rugby Arts in the Park, Crosby Lutefest, Jamestown Focus on Life, Annual Germanfest in Fargo and many more. They play old-time, country western, and old standards music that is very danceable music. They perform twice a month for the Northwest Polkateers Dancing Club of Minot, North Dakota. They have recorded seven CDs and currently have six CDs available for sale.
JERRY SCHLAG is the accordionist and started playing accordion at the age of ten. Jerry has been playing for dances since the late 1950s when he started with his father’s orchestra. He attend Minot State University taking several music courses. He has played with many different groups throughout the years. He is a member of the Norsk Høstfest Accordion Club and has performed in many of the Norsk Høstfest accordion competitions. He placed first in five of the events and performed as a judge in three of the competitions. In May of 2006 he was inducted into the Dakota Music Association Hall of Fame at Aberdeen, South Dakota. Jerry is a life member of the American Federation of Musicians. Jerry and his wife Laurel reside in Minot, North Dakota.
MYRON DAMMEN is the guitarist in the band. Myron graduated from Minot State University in 1957 and went on to teach music in high school. He continued his education getting a masters degree and then continued to teach Psychology on the college level. He then did some work on a doctorate and came back to Minot State University to teach Psychology until he retired. Myron played the guitar continuously with different bands and also a lot of solo work throughout the years. Myron had his own band “The Downtowners” for several years. Through the years Myron has played about every type of music imaginable with several great musicians. He now works with Jerry and the J-M-B Band. He is a fine guitarist and you will enjoy him. Myron was inducted into the Dakota Music Association Hall of Fame in Aberdeen, South Dakota in May of 2007. Myron is a life member of the American Federation of Musicians. Myron and his wife Joyce reside in Minot, North Dakota.
The J-M-B Band has recorded seven CDs, “North Dakota Saturday Night”, “Music Memories of North Dakota”, “Kickin” Back in North Dakota”, “Jammin” in North Dakota“, “Season‘s Greetings from North Dakota“ , “Happy Days in North Dakota“ and “Twilight on the Prairies of North Dakota“. They are all of the waltz, Polka, schottische, old standards and country western format except for Seasons Greetings from North Dakota, which has all types of Christmas music.
