Shelby Huston

Shelby Huston is a 16-year-old competitive fiddle player, from Minot, N.D., playing some old time fiddle music from a generation of music that has since been forgotten. She plays hoedowns, breakdowns, jigs, polkas and most people's favorite - the waltz.

Huston is currently a 10th grader at Central Campus in Minot and started playing violin in the 4th grade at the age of 9 under the instruction of Ms. Kari Moen. In the 6th grade, Mr. Jim Tengesdal became her instructor and in 2011 started her with fiddle lessons.

Huston started competing at the Old Time Fiddlers Contest at the International Peace Gardens in 2011 and won two years in a row in her age division. In 2013, she competed and placed in the Championship division after the first round and placed fourth over all. Huston also has competed in various fiddle contests in the state of Minnesota during the past two years, taking home many prizes.
