1996 Honoree

Country music legend Charley Pride receives the Høstfest Merit of Distinction Award in the Performing Arts.

Perhaps more than any other entertainer, Charley Pride has brought country music to the world. His rich and expansive baritone, combined with his endearing personality has established him as a genuine star through the fads and fashions that have shaped country music over the past two decades.

Pride has charted Number One singles since his first hit in 1969, “All I Have To Offer You (Is Me)”. His 1971 classic, “Kiss An Angel Good Morning” helped to broaden country music’s popularity in the nation. Since then, his well-known songs have included “Mountain Of Love”, “Amazing Love”, and “Honky Tonk Blues.”

Pride’s popularity is not limited to the United States; he has earned 31 gold and 4 platinum LPs worldwide and is one of the top 15 all-time world record sellers.
