Gen. Charles F. Wald

General Wald is  Deputy Commander, U.S. European Command.  A Minot native and an alumnus of Bishop Ryan High School and North Dakota State University, he earned his commission through Air Force ROTC in 1971.  He is a command pilot with more than 3,200 flying hours, including 450 in combat over Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Iraq and Bosnia. He has commanded the 31st Fighter Wing at Aviano Air Base, Italy, served as Director of Strategic Planning and Policy at Headquarters US Air Force and on the Joint Staff as the Vice Director for Strategic Plans and Policy.  Prior to his current position, the general commanded 9th Air Force and US Central Command Air Forces, Shaw AFB, SC.
