Ryan Keplin Fiddling Lefty

Belcourt, North Dakota native, Ryan Keplin, has established a positive demeanor as a distinctive left hand Metis style fiddle player and entertainer, astonishing audiences wherever he plays. His musical interests began as a young child when he found inspiration in the music of fiddle greats like Andy Desjarlais, Reg Bouvette, and Graham Townsend. Ryan’s astounding show is a mixture of fiddle music and singing, leaving his audiences wanting to hear more.

Ryan, also known as Fiddling Lefty, has performed in the USA and Canada at various events and festivals, including the Festival of American Folklife at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC, Metisfest at the International Peace Gardens, Asham Stomperfest in Manitoba and the famous Back to Botoche Festival in Saskatchewan. He has been featured on television programs such as Prairie Musicians and Metis Pride. In 2015 Ryan established his own festival “Ryan Keplin SUMMER Fest” which is an annual event held on the second weekend of July at the Maple Sugar Ranch, near Rolette, ND.

Ryan has released six albums full of traditional Metis tunes as well as many of his own compositions. In 2010, Ryan’s fourth album, Fiddling Lefty Twist, was nominated for the Fiddle CD of the Year at the Aboriginal People’s Choice Music Awards in Canada. In 2011, Ryan was inducted into the International Fiddlers Hall of Fame. This prestigious honor is a result of his musical accomplishments and dedication. He dedicated this award to his Canadian and American fans and friends. Ryan was also awarded the 2011 Adult of the Year award in his hometown community of Belcourt, ND.

This multi-talented entertainer possess the ability to play not only the fiddle, but also the acoustic guitar, bass guitar, drums, mandolin and piano. With an experienced musical background, Ryan has shared the stage with well-known entertainers such as Moe Bandy, Doug Kershaw, Jo-el Sonnier, Eddie Raven, Reg Bouvette, Darren LaVallie, Clint Dutiume, John Arcand and Calvin Volrath. Ryan just completed his seventh album which is set to be released in the fall of 2017.
