The McNordiques blend traditional Scandinavian, French, and Celtic music to create unique sound… one you are not likely to hear anywhere else. The McNordiques are Dan Newton, Tom Klein, and Renee Vaughan. They guarantee to play tunes until your toes wiggle with joy!
1️⃣ Renee Vaughan plays traditional Scandinavian music on the nyckelharpa, an instrument that has been around in one form or another for over 700 years. She performers throughout the northern heartland area with a variety of musical constellations and plays for a monthly Scandinavian social dance in the Twin Cities.
2️⃣ Dan Newton has been playing offbeat accordion music since 1987 and draws influences from French Musette, Gypsy Swing, Celtic, Cajun, Jug band, Scandinavian, Tex-Mex, Cumbia, and pop standards. He also plays with “Dan Newton’s Café Accordion Orchestra,” “Honky Tonk Jump,” and Prairie Home Companion’s “Prairie All Star Band.”
3️⃣ Tom Klein has played the pipes for much of his adult life, after growing up playing classical music. His enigmatic approach to Irish piping embraces an array of traditions. He performs in concert, has demonstrated in Ireland, and teaches at the Center for Irish Music.
