The 99th Infantry Battalion (separate), a unit composed solely of Norwegians and Americans of direct Norwegian descent, was activated by War Department order on July 10, 1942. Olaf Haaland, former Ward Count Sheriff for 22 years, is representing the Battalion which has held annual reunions since 1945 when it was disbanded.
