From welcoming touring Americans at her family’s farm near Ulefoss, Norway, to scouring the Norwegian countryside for books and artifacts that are now displayed at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, Ragnhild Hagen has found varied and unique ways to help citizens on both sides of the Atlantic understand and appreciate their counterparts across the ocean. Her dedication to fostering and improving the connection between Norway and the United States was honored with Norway’s King’s Order of Merit in gold, the criteria which includes “gainful effort in art, culture, science, including social and humanitarian works of social value and of countrywide importance over a time span.
