Tom Netherton
Scandinavian-American Hall of Fame
2009 Inductee
Tom Netherton knew at an early age he loved music, but the path to his success and fame as an inspirational singer and regular on the Lawrence Welk Show led through military service, missionary training – even the rugged North Dakota Badlands. It was while performing with the Medora Musical in 1973 that Netherton’s career took a sharp rise. Medora developers Harold and Sheila Schafer had arrangd a meeting between the talented baritone in their employ and their friend, Lawrence Welk. He was invited to perform on Welk’s show a few days later. He stayed with the Welk Show until the show ended in 1981. Netherton, who is of Danish descent is still entertaining and inspiring audiences. Netheron was presented by Sheila Schafer.
